This morning, Surfrider Foundation CEO Chad Nelsen sent a letter to East Hampton Town Supervisor Larry Cantwell. This is an unprecedented level of involvement from the top of the organization in a local Chapter campaign. In an organization with 84 Chapters, with at least 200 active campaigns, this rarely, if ever, happens.
It calls for the town to halt the project and to pursue an alternative. It is the town's right and the town has the ability to do this. Local Chapter activist Tom Muse is meeting with the Town Supervisor as well to make sure the town does not attempt to claim their hands are tied by the Corps or any other regulations - you know, now that he's out of jail and all.
