The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s oceans, waves and beaches through a powerful activist network. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 250,000 supporters, activists and members worldwide. Surfrider’s coastal environmental work is carried out by Surfrider Foundation’s 60 chapters located along the East, West, Gulf, Puerto Rican, and Hawaiian coasts. The Eastern Long Island chapter is dedicated to maintaining and acquiring beach and ocean access rights, to preserve our coastline and improve the overall quality of Long Island’s coastal environment. Our ocean, waves and beaches belong to all of us and it is our job to protect them.

When we see what we love in trouble, we act. And we win.
Our irreplaceable national network of chapter volunteers serves as the first response to local threats in coastal communities across the US. They are the boots on the ground who collaborate on both the local and national level with regional staff and issue experts to carry out our mission through campaign, program and educational initiatives in their local communities.
Protect & Enjoy
Surfrider has built a network of coastal defenders who transform their passion for our coasts into lasting protection. Bridging local knowledge with national experts in law, policy and science, our formula for success — both the playbook and the team — produces victories for our beaches year after year. Over the last three decades we have a track record of more than 350 victories (since we started counting in 2006!). We don’t just play. We win.
