Eastern Long Island Chapter Meeting in Westhampton

Members and volunteers from our chapter met at Westhampton Beach Brewing Co. for an October chapter meeting. After we ordered some seasonal beers and appetizers, we sat down to go over the agenda.

Since we have not been active in this part our boundaries lately, our chapter chair, Courtney Garneau, gave an overview of Surfrider Foundation's mission and what our chapter has been working on this year. She also went over new ways for volunteers to get involved, including our upcoming chapter elections (11/15), ways to join a subcommittee, and upcoming events. The group talked about areas of the East End that need beach cleanups, potential ways we could grow our Ocean Friendly Restaurants program, and the upcoming membership drive.

We were also joined by Mid-Atlantic Regional Manager, John Weber, who talked about the new strategic plan that Surfrider is now going through on a national level. Our organization is making big plans to become bigger and better, and we are excited to see this growth!

The owner of Westhampton Beach Brewing Co. happened to be sitting in on our meeting and let us know about a cool upcycling opportunity -- if you have broken surfboards, bring them to Westhampton Beach Brewing Co. who will turn them into decor for their brewery! Email info@whbbrewingco.com for more information.

Overall, it was a great and inspiring discussion amongst new and familiar friends. Thanks to everyone who came out to learn more about us and ways to get involved!

Our next chapter gathering will be after our Black Friday Cleanup at The Maidstone in East Hampton. Join us after 2pm for cozy fireside beverages and appetizers as we talk about our Ocean Friendly Restaurants program and how you can help! RSVP here.
