First Interscholastic Surf Games - Info And Applications

SURFRIDER ELI
FIRST ANNUAL SCHOLASTIC SURF GAMES
Saturday June 9th, 2007

The Eastern Long Island Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will hold our First Annual New York State Scholastic Surfing Games. This event is scheduled for Saturday, June 9, 2007 (No wave date - Sunday, June 10th) at Ditch Plains Beach, Montauk, NY at 10:00 a.m.

We have secured a permit to hold this special event issued by the Town of East Hampton, and insurance from the Surfrider Foundation National office in San Clemente, CA. In addition, we have arranged for lifeguard coverage to be provided by certified lifeguards. Our chapter will provide all resources necessary to conduct this event.

PARTICIPATION

Schools from around the Long Island region are invited to participate. The event is designed to foster surfing as a school team sport and encourage the growth of surf clubs and surf teams. Participation by middle and high schools on Long Island (especially those with surf clubs) will also help to gain support by the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA). The NSSA is a national organization with a twenty year history of organizing competitive surfing events for schools. To date, despite the popularity of surfing on Long Island, there has never been an NSSA event.

SPONSORSHIP

Our chapter has enlisted the aid of many local Individuals and businesses who are donating prizes, giveaways and money. In addition, Quicksilver, SoBe and other major brands have committed resources to this event

TO PARTICIPATE
We encourage surfers of all skill levels to participate (participants must minimally be able to paddle out and into a wave under their own power and be able to swim). You must be affiliated with a school, and participate as a surf club or team. Each team must have at least 4 and no more than 7 students. OUR GOALS
Our Chapter sees this event as a way to help grow our membership with young surfers via a fun and educational event. An important component of this event will be Respect the Beach  and Water Safety Presentations  - which will be done during an in-school visit prior to the contest by Surfrider Foundation members.
