On January 26, 2009, our Surfing Advisory Committee met with New York State Parks Regional Director, Ron Foley.
Mr. Foley announced that the NO SURFING sign would be replaced by a sign saying NO SURFING FROM APRIL 1st TO DECEMBER 14th.
We thanked Mr.Foley for taking this small, yet significant step amidst relentless opposition from the fishing lobby based almost 100 miles from Montauk.
Mr. Foley agreed to meet again with the SAC in early July, to review the limited Winter surfing policy, and see what steps could be made to move forward.
The SAC has been working with NY State Parks for over 4 years to gain unrestricted surfing access to Montauk Point State Park.
