Community Choice Energy in East Hampton

Community Choice Energy in East Hampton

The Eastern Long Island Chapter is promoting Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) (also known as Community Choice Energy) in Eastern Long Island.

CCA allows local communities to purchase their energy needs in bulk, possibly creating cheaper energy prices, and definitely allowing a community to choose to receive renewable energy. The Chapter received helpful information from Energize East Hampton.

Scientists continue to warn us of the grave dangers to our environment, economy, community, and way of life from climate change. Moving forward with CCA will allow the Town of East Hampton to meet its renewable energy goals as well as help New York meet its energy targets under the New York Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act of 2019.

The Chapter sent a letter to the Long Island Power Authority on May 8, 2020, asking them to allow communities on Long Island to adopt CCA legislation and energy programs. The Chapter then made some phone calls and sent a letter on August 24, 2020 to the Town of East Hampton Board, supporting Resolution 2020-510, which laid out a legislative path towards setting up a CCA program. The Chapter also provided comments at a September 17, 2020 hearing of the Town Board.
