OceanKids

The ocean is all around us on the East End of Long Island. The ocean tests us, pushes us, teaches us, calms us, feeds us. Learning to swim in the ocean and ride its waves safely and ably is one of the gifts and joys of living here, a pleasure and a skill that should be available to everyone. Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island's OceanKids program, in partnership with CoreysWave, OLA of Eastern Long Island, and ProjectMost is making that possible.

OceanKids

The OceanKids collaboration seeks to address the legacy of historical inequities that have prevented communities in our region from safely enjoying our beloved waterways. The growing community of organizations and individuals on our team seeks to strengthen participants’ connection to and appreciation of water.

How do we do this? For our first year, we're partnering with one of Eastern LI's premier surf schools, CoreysWave, through their WaveShare program to provide FREE surfing & ocean safety lessons to the community, connected with us through ProjectMost & Organización Latino Americana (OLA) de Eastern Long Island, who may otherwise not have access to such lessons. Do you have an idea, skills, or energy to bring to this growing community? Please consider joining us!

"Once you've ridden a wave, nothing is ever the same. The ocean is exhilarating, humbling, it’s just wow. Everyone who lives around here should experience that joy and privilege, and too many don’t. That’s why Project Most, OLA, the Surfrider Foundation and CoreysWave came together to cast this awesome net. As every surfer knows, waves are toys from God, so let’s go!” — Biddle Duke, OceanKids Program Coordinator
