On Friday, July 2nd, Montauk Brewing Co. sponsored a beach cleanup hosted by the Surfrider Foundation Eastern Long Island Chapter. Volunteers faced a dodgy weather forecast and met at the brewery to gather their cleanup supplies. They walked down a few blocks to Kirk Beach to start cleaning, and in the end collected 47 pounds of trash! Cigarette butts, small pieces of plastic, and food wrappers topped the list of items picked up.
The cleanup ended just in time for the brewery's opening at noon. Montauk Brewing Co. was celebrating their 9th anniversary that weekend, and they brewed a special limited beer for the occasion! The Barreled IPA was a lighter bodied, slightly floral beer and very refreshing for the summer. Montauk Brewing was gracious enough to donate a portion of the sales of our chapter.
Overall, it was a great event with people coming together to take care of one of Montauk's beaches. Plus, we got to celebrate with beer! Thank you again to our volunteers and to Montauk Brewing Co. for supporting us and hosting this event!
